SOTOS in Use: Cardiac surgery using heart-lung machine at the University Medical Centre Göttingen

Cardiac surgery using heart-lung machine at the University Medical Centre Göttingen (CABG, Coronar Artery Bypass Grafting).
Assisted by SOTOS with special microphones in front of the mouthguard and over- or in-ear monitoring. The whole team is connected to the central multidimensional SOTOS matrix. Here, the team members receive a different selection from the entire information content in the operating theatre, depending on their work assignment.
Everyone listens to quiet background music according to their own taste, which also becomes quieter depending on the density of informationflow.
Please note that a lively conversation takes place in this life video situation which is so quiet that it is acoustically masked in the ambient noise of the operating theatre and thus cannot be heard. In addition to confidentiality, this enables us to ensure, among other things, that potentially dangerous aerosols from the staff's respiratory tract are significantly less likely to be spread (infection control for staff and patients, COVID19 protection).

DE102015205463A1:

An apparatus for creating audio environments in an operating room is described. The device comprises a plurality of portable intercom units. The intercom units each have at least one microphone and one headphone, which are designed to suppress ambient noise. A mixer is in signal exchange with the plurality of intercom units and is designed for program-controlled signal transmission between the plurality of intercom units. Different control programs, each defining the program-controlled signal line, are stored in a memory. At least one of the control programs restricts the exchange of signals between the plurality of intercom units to form the audio environments. A controller determines one of the control programs and controls the mixer for the program-controlled signal line between the plurality of intercom units in accordance with the determined control program.
